The Austin Marathon is Sunday Feb 19th. We created Honor Flight Austin to fly WWII Veterans to Washington, DC in May at no cost to visit their Memorial and Monuments. Honor Flight Austin will be helping at the starting line of the Marathon; if we get 30 volunteers; we get $1000.00 towards Honor Flight; $1000.00 pays for one Veterans round trip ticket and expenses!

Here is what they are looking for in volunteers for the Austin Marathon start line area:
Volunteers will help manage the thousands of runners in the start line area. This shift takes place in the main starting corral at the starting line. As a corral volunteer you will help dress fencing & structures with signage; control access to the start line area; help facilitate key logistics in the race starting sequence and clear the start line area of discarded race gear between the Marathon and 5K race starts. Due to the need to control access to the corral and to get the attention of the runners, this position requires volunteers with a great amount of confidence who can speak clearly, loudly and assertively. Volunteers should also be comfortable securing access to the corral, despite potential objections of runners who try to gain access. Volunteers will be placed into teams; each team will have 6-8 volunteers. So this shift is a good option for individuals or small groups. You will be contacted by the team captain of this shift with more information on which team you will be placed. Teams will be located in the start corral on Congress Avenue. The minimum age for this volunteer role is 18, or 16 when accompanied by parent/guardian.
