I thought George Dane, survivor of the Battle of the Bulge and with over 30 years of military service (including time in the Army Reserve), deserved the honor of an Honor Flight. The Honor Flight has been operating the past several years for the purpose of flying military veterans to Washington, DC to view first hand the World War II Memorial, many for the first time. George and I were present in 2004 at the dedication of the Memorial, so we had not considered taking the Honor Flight. But the trip is much more than just a sightseeing trip. Veterans are really HONORED! Starting at the orientation meeting a week before, flags lined the route, Boy Scouts saluted, uniformed soldiers thanked us for our service, as well as many people and school children. They really got our attention!
