On August 31, I boarded a plane for one of the most meaningful journeys of my life. On that day, I joined almost 100 WWII veterans at 3:15 a.m. to board a flight from Midway to Dulles in Washington, DC as part of Honor Flight Chicago. What followed were 18 hours photographing the anticipation, joy, reflection and sorrow of these great men and women as they visited the memorials erected in our nation’s capital in their honor.
